Air
Canberra does not have an
international airport, but visitors
can fly to Canberra's airport which
is 7km southeast of the city center
via domestic carriers. Flights
depart from all Australian State
capital cities, and from some of the
bigger towns within NSW. Travellers
who come from smaller State capitals
may need to make a stopover in
Sydney or Melbourne on the way.
Action Buses runs an hourly service
between the airport and the city
(Mon–Fri 6.55am–10pm; Tel 13
1710) for $2.
Bus
Buses run to Canberra from
Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, with
connections to the other capitals.
Most interstate buses drop and pick
up at the handy Jolimont Centre,
downtown at 67 Northbourne Ave. You
can also catch buses to Canberra
from the snowfields, the rest of NSW
and the South Coast.
Train
The main train station is located
southeast of the center on Wentworth
Avenue in Kingston. Trains generally
run from Sydney, or you have the
alternative to do a combined
bus-train trip from Melbourne.
Car
Visitors may drive along the Hume
Highway which runs between Melbourne
and Sydney and passes about 50 km
north of Canberra. The Monaro
highway to the south will take you
to Cooma, he snowfields and the
coast.
